History

Church in the Word was founded in 2000 by Pastor Patrick Hoban – an evangelist from Ireland – and his wife, Tami – a worship leader from Wisconsin. The congregation borrowed a couple of facilities in Algonquin, Illinois, during their early years before securing a place of our own in an old warehouse on Berg Street. The ministry strengthened and the congregation grew until, in 2005, we moved to our current location on the northern edge of Elgin, Illinois. In 2012, Pastor Hoban stepped down to return to full-time evangelism. Pastor Scott Neubauer, along with his wife, Noeleen, moved into the Lead Pastor role, as we continue in a new season of growth and service to the Elgin community and beyond.

Statement of Beliefs

We are a full-gospel, Spirit-filled church. We believe that the New Testament we read in scripture is the same New Testament that we’re living in today, and that the Holy Spirit is the same now as He was then. We believe the scriptures are inerrant, and being a disciple of Christ means the same thing today as it did thousands of years ago. Our full statement of beliefs is here.

LEADERSHIP

Pastor Scott and Noeleen Neubauer - Lead Pastor
After over 10 years as a Children’s and Associate Pastor, Scott became the Lead Pastor of Church In The Word in August 2012. Together, over the course of that first year, he and Noeleen prayerfully assembled the leadership team that will take CITW into this next season. With this very passionate and capable team in place, they are looking forward to a new season of growth and effectiveness for CITW.
