Each day before I walk out my door, I remind myself that the greatest need this world has is Jesus Christ. Then I remind myself that He is in me, the hope of glory (Col 1:27). Reaching your neighborhood for Jesus is not rocket science. In fact many times it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference. Here’s a few things that have helped me, and I believe they will help you to as you get intentional about reaching your neighbors with the love of Christ.

1. Be Pleasant

There are enough people walking around this world with scowls on their faces that when we see someone with a genuine smile, he stands out. Joy is a promise for us as Christians, and it’s something that should differentiate us from the rest of the world. When you walk through your neighborhood make a point to be authentically pleasant and joyful: do the simple things like look people in the eye and that alone will start to open doors.

2. Be Approachable & Available

Busyness marks almost everybody’s life these days, so make sure your neighbors know you’re not too busy to lend a helping hand or listen to and pray for a prayer request. It might be as simple as telling them sometime, “You know, I believe in a loving God who hears and answers prayer, so if you ever have anything you need prayer for, be sure to let me know." Sometimes this may lead to deep conversations, and other times it might just be a seed sown.

3. Be Aware of God in you & the people around you

This will keep you on your toes and looking for opportunities. It’s not your job to come up with the perfect thing to say in each situation; the Holy Spirit promises to give you what to say. Our job is to just take the opportunity and trust Him. It sounds simple, but that’s living by faith. The more you start to do this and see God show up in situations, the more fun life becomes because you just never know what’s going to happen today and who’s life God’s going to use you to touch.

Jesus said His food was to do the will of God and finish His work (John 4:34). Living like this for Jesus was satisfying, fulfilling, nourishing, and gave Him energy to live life. This “food” of doing the will of God each day can be as life-giving for you as it was for Jesus.

Don’t let fear or doubt over your life any longer. Don’t let the blessing of God stop with you. Begin today to let His love and power flow out of you and into this dark and dying world, and watch God bring forth miraculous results.
